The problem

Each department’s data lived in different places — two SQL databases, spreadsheets, and asset-management and GIS systems — so getting one clear picture meant pulling from several sources by hand.

What I built

  • Requirements first

Gathered reporting requirements with stakeholders in four departments before building anything.

  • A workspace per team

Set up Power BI workspaces with dashboards tailored to each team’s reporting needs.

  • Unified data models

Combined two SQL databases, enterprise asset management (EAM) and GIS data, and Excel into single models using Power Query transformations and custom DAX measures.

  • SQL behind the visuals

Wrote T-SQL queries, views and stored procedures on SQL Server, plus PowerShell automation and REST/SOAP integrations to feed reports.

Result

  • 12+ dashboards across four departments.
  • Each department can see its data in one place instead of across separate databases and spreadsheets.
